Royals Through to Fifth Round of the FA Cup

Reading are into the draw for the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Goals from Mikele Leigertwood and Shane Long saw the Royals beat Stevenage 2-1 away in their fourth round clash on Saturday.

Graham Westley's men had knocked out Premier League side Newcastle in the previous round.

After the game, Reading boss, Brian McDermott said: "I'm delighted with the result. We're in the next round which is exactly why we came here.

In the first half we controlled the game and were good value for the lead. After 60 minutes I thought we would see it out but the game changed, Graham made substitutions, changed his team around and it made a difference.

It was difficult for us for ten minutes or so, but we got back into it, tried to win the game, scored the winner with a great cross from Jobi and a fabulous finish from Shane."

Brian added that he never underestimated the opposition, despite them being a League Two side: "I've been here plenty of times in my younger days, I knew how hard it would be but I didn't tell the players, that's for sure! I said to them afterwards, to come here and go through like that, well done to every one of our players.

Stevenage had proved themselves against Newcastle in the previous round. We prepared fully, we had a game plan - if we didn't have a game plan then we would have lost, no doubt about it. We've got the right result.

Sometimes you have to hang in there, and we did that in that spell in the second half. The fans got behind us, there was a great atmosphere, it's what the FA Cup is all about, why it's a fantastic competition. We're on a bit of a run, we all enjoyed it last year and we want to go as far as we can."
