Anger over plans to review school catchments in Wokingham
A consultation is due to take place this month and next month following the closure of Ryeish Green School.
There are claims that pupils from Alfred Sutton Primary School in Reading will no longer fall in the catchment area for Maiden Erleigh School in Wokingham.
Former Reading Borough Councillor Richard McKenzie's children attended Maiden Erleigh School and he is concerned other children won't have the same opportunity.
He says "Maiden Erleigh Senior School has always been the school that children at Alfred Sutton have attended, and so all our logistical links are set up.
"My children can walk to school, the majority of children who live in the catchment area for Alfred Sutton Primary can walk to the senior school, so there's no environmental impact on that.
"What I'm doing is urging residents to go and sign our petition to make their opinions clear, but also to write to Wokingham Education department about their reasons for not wanting this change."
In a statement a spokesperson for Wokingham Borough Council says the review does include amending the designated area boundaries for Maiden Erleigh School with criteria such as pupil numbers and travel distances being considered.
They continue to say that they are working closely with Reading Borough Council and that there will continue to be a significant need for school places in Wokingham to cater for Reading pupils, although no decisions have yet been made.
